Connexions & Careers Advisors

Julian Hodges, a Personal Advisor from Connexions / Careers Management visits the Student Information Centre to give careers and progression advice to current students, anyone aged 16 – 19 and up to 25 where there are additional learning needs.

This includes advice on:

    • Routes into Careers

    • Apprenticeships

    • Careers

    • CV Writing

    • Higher Education

    • Job searching and application

    • Training

    • Volunteering

    • Group sessions

    • Individual Guidance appointments

    • Gap year advice

Students can see Julian between 9am-12noon on Wednesdays in the Student Information Centre for one to one interviews, or in the LRC Drop-In on Wednesdays 12noon - 1.30pm.

In addition to Julian, Kay O'Connell is a Connexions Personal Advisor available to work with young people who require support for personal issues. Kay is predominantly in the Student Information Centre but will also provide a service to Sheppey. For an informal chat contact Kay on 07834 960049 or e-mail k.oconnell@cant-col.ac.uk.

Kay is able to offer support and referral for the following:

    • Alcohol and Substance misuse

    • Difficulties at college with your course/tutor/group

    • Health - mental, physical or sexual health

    • How to make an appeal: whether appealing an academic decision, a suspension, non payment of Educational Maintenance Allowance, non payment of an Adult Learning Grant or refusal of a Learner Support Application  

    • Attendance and advocacy at a  student disciplinary

    • Lifestyle Choices

    • Money, benefits and housing

    • Pregnancy

    • Bullying

    • Relationships
