Health and Social Care Higher National Diploma - Level 5

This programme has been designed to equip individuals with underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for success in employment in the health and/or social care sector at a supervisory or management level.

What will I learn?

They will develop transferable skills and knowledge which will enable them to meet changing circumstances, whether moving within their own area of employment, moving up to a supervisory or management position or adapting to general changes in the provision or environment of health and social care. Modules will include: Communicating in Health and Social Care; Principles of Health and Social Care Practice; Health and Safety in the Health and Social Care Workplace; Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care. Working in Partnership in Health and Social Care, Empowering Users of Health and Social Care Services, Physiological Principles for Health and Social Care, Psychology for Health and Social Care. Research Project, The Sociological Context of Health and Social Care, Managing Human Resources in Health and Social Care, Health Promotion, Understanding Specific Needs in Health and Social Care , Contemporary Issues in H&SC, Supporting Independent Living and Supporting Significant Life Events.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is through course work, written assignments, presentations and project work.

What may it lead to?

This programme prepares individuals to progress to further professional development such as subject to entry criteria Degree level study in Health and Social Care delivered at Canterbury College (Subject to Validation). Students are also enabled to undertake employment and career advancement in the health and social care sector.

Entry Requirements:

At least one of the following: BTEC National Diploma at Merit/Merit/Pass; A level or Advanced GCE at C or above, relevant Access course equivalent qualification. Mature students with relevant experience but without formal academic qualifications are welcome to apply.

Validated and certificated by Edexcel/Pearson.

Fees are for 2014-2015 for the first year.
