Support

If there’s something you aren’t happy with at when you are with us, there are people here to support you. Your course tutor may be able to help. Also every course should have a student elected as a Course Rep who has been trained to help you sort out problems. You can get free confidential and objective advice about a range of personal, academic and financial problems from the 'Information, Advice & Guidance' team at the Student Information Centre. You can also come and see the Students' Union who can help you out. The college will always try its best to help you.

Bullying: What is it and what to do about it.

girl.jpgEvery student is entitled to learn in a safe and supportive environment but sometimes, unfortunately, a student may find that they are being threatened, abused or harassed by someone else in the College. This is bullying.

If you are being bullied, or if you know someone who is, don’t ignore it. This behaviour won’t change or go away on its own. There are things you can do.

  • Speak to your tutor or to the Connexions Personal Adviser in the Student Information Centre (Kay O’Connell 01227 812060 or 07834960049). They will investigate the situation and take the appropriate action.
  • Keep a record of each incident and save any texts or emails you may have been sent.
  • Try not to retaliate or fight back. This will not help and could make matters worse.
  • Remember that bullying is the fault of the bully, not the person being bullied.

Canterbury College has a strong Anti-Bullying Policy. Staff will listen to you in confidence, will take the problem seriously and will help you to deal with it. No one deserves to be bullied; so if you are, please come forward and help the College to help you.
