National Apprenticeship Week, organised by the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS), takes place from Monday 1st to Friday 5th February and will celebrate the talents and skills of apprentices across England.

Watch a video about some of our current apprentices.

During this week Canterbury College will be celebrating the talent and skills of its current apprentices as well as highlighting the range of apprenticeships and the benefits of the programmes to employers.

Over the next ten weeks the National Apprenticeship Service will provide up to 5000 grants of £2,500 to enable employers to take on an unemployed 16 or 17 year old apprentice immediately. This grant is in addition to the costs of training which are already covered by NAS.

Canterbury College is encouraging anyone interested in becoming an Apprentice, and local employers to attend the College this week. New Apprenticeship grants have become available offering employers an easy way to take on young apprentices.

The Apprenticeship Team from the College are holding two great events this week:

Student Drop in Centre

Wednesday 3 Feb - 10am-2pm

To talk to any young people interested in starting an Apprenticeship and to give potential students an insight into particular subject areas.
(The Street, Canterbury College)

Employer Lunch

Friday 5 Feb 12-2pm

To talk to employers
(Boardroom, Canterbury College)

We offer Apprenticeships in the following careers:

Apprenticeships can take between one and four years to complete depending on the level, individual apprentice ability and the industry sector. Most of the training takes place at work, developing specific skills and knowledge your company needs to remain competitive.

Apprentices:

  • Earn a salary while training, between £95 - £150 per week
  • Gain experience in a real work environment, developing skills by doing the job
  • Benefit from regular guidance and motivation to complete training.
    Employers
  • Apprenticeships are the lifeblood of our industries. A sufficiently large and regular intake of Apprentices is necessary to build the skills base the UK need to compete globally.

The training costs are supported by government funds and if you take on a student it will greatly reduce the training time and costs and help you demonstrate your company’s commitment to training.

Apprentices can also bring new ideas into your company and they can be easily moulded into your ideal employee.
