College Achievements
In our journey to be the best college in the South East we have continued to raise quality, standards and innovation in teaching and learning.
We became the first general further education college in Kent to attain the Training Quality Standard for our employer related work.
We also regained the Matrix Advice & Guidance standard kitemark and became one of only a handful of colleges or universities to acquire the Investors in People Gold standard.
Where are they now?
Every year, around 10,000 students from across East Kent study at Canterbury College on a range of programmes. Many of them have been in touch and shared their success stories.
Kevin Bennett studied the BTEC National Diploma Catering and is now working in Buckingham Palace.
Louise Rush studied the Level 3 Diploma Child Care and Education and in 2010 completed her Early Years Degree at Canterbury Christ Church University.
Peter Griggs studied the BTEC National Diploma Computing, achieving a Silver Medal, and was ‘highly commended’ in the Network Management section of the UK World Skills finals.
Max Reynolds studied the BTEC National Diploma Performing Arts and is now the Artistic Director of Lights Up Productions.
Emma Parker studied the NVQ Level 2 & 3 Beauty Therapy, and is now working at Nails Inc in Fenwicks, Canterbury.
Charlotte Austin studied the BTEC National Diploma Health Studies and is now on a Nursing programme at Southampton University.
Ryan Lawford studied the BTEC National Diploma Motor Vehicle and is now a Race Technician in Andrew Jordan’s British Touring Car Championship team.
Lee Price studied a BTEC National Diploma and went on to become a Producer at Virgin Radio.
David Goggin studied the HND and Degree in Music Technology and now works for Public Performance Limited (PPL).
Dan Savage studied the BTEC National Diploma Sport and now runs his own Personal Training Company.
Samantha Miller studied the BTEC National Diploma Travel & Tourism and is now working for Thomson Airways as an Air Cabin Crew member.
Simon Cartwight studied a BTEC National Diploma and is now serving in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME).

Beauty Student Named Best Trainee Beautician
Charlotte Hawkins (20), from Sittingbourne, beat more than 450 other students from across the UK to win the prestigious ‘Outstanding BTEC student in Beauty and Hospitality’ award.
Success as over 400 learners receive their A Level results
The AS A Levels department is celebrating its success as over 400 learners receive their A Level results and maintained its strong A Level pass rate with 100% achievement in 9 subjects including: Physics, Philosophy & Photography.
Students win top prize at the Hampton Court Flower Show
The College Floristry Team won Royal Horticulture Society Gold Medal and also Best in Show “Best Swinging 60’s Floristry Exhibit 2011” for their unique Beatles creation, inspired by this year’s flower show theme ‘the Swinging 60’s’.
Student's Doodle Wins National Recognition
A doodle by an Art student at Canterbury College has won National recognition and helped raise money for charity. Charles Robinson saw off competition to win the Sixth Form and Colleges category entered his sketch for a competition as part of National Doodle Day.
College Student Wins Top UK Film Award
At a special ceremony on Sunday 12 June in Tamworth, Staffordshire Eugene Tighe (23) from Lyminge, near Folkestone was awarded first prize for 'Best FE Documentary' at the Inspire Film Festival.
Students Tegan and Tina win Adult Learners' Week Awards
Tegan Hunter had been homeless for three years before she took up learning has been given a Regional Individual Award Fund after she completed courses and qualifications in Basic IT, CV Writing, Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Employability Skills. Meantime, Tina is also celebrating receiving an Adult Learners Week award after becoming the first female in the South East region to gain Automotive Technician Accreditation.
Student Helps Create Virtual School Website
A student at Canterbury College has helped to design a website that will be used by experts to make sure children in care get more out of life. Theresa Jackson has been working on ideas for Kent County Council’s new Virtual School website.
College Celebrates Gifted and Talented Students
A Level students at Canterbury College have been giving presentations to mark the end of a project that could help them secure a place at University. The A Level Extended Project is aimed at gifted and talented students and enables them to gain extra UCAS points which could prove vital as they compete for places on degree courses across the country.
Student’s Photo Chosen for Fred Perry Ad Campaign
A student at Canterbury College is celebrating after a photo he took was chosen to feature in an advertising campaign for a major clothes label. Lawrence Hart, who studied HND in Graphic Design and Advertising at the New Dover Road Campus, entered a competition to celebrate the dedicated followers of Fred Perry called ‘Tell Us Your Story’.
College Florists make Mother’s Day blooming marvellous
Mums shopping in Canterbury were given an extra special treat for Mother’s Day this year as Whitefriars gave away over a thousand mini bouquets professionally prepared, packed and distributed by students and staff from the Canterbury College Floristry Department.
Students win at Skilled Up Kent 2011 competition
Two students from Canterbury College have made it through to the final of Skilled Up Kent 2011. Jason Setterfield, 20, from Sittingbourne won first place in the Carpentry contest and Matthew Davis, 22, from Canterbury, won first place in Bench Joinery.
Student earns NME exclusive for his music video
Canterbury College student Chris Wade got an NME exclusive after producing a music video for Margate band Two Wounded Birds, who performed at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
Student wins place at Edinburgh TV Festival event
Canterbury College student Hilary Fraser has been picked from thousands of hopefuls to go to the Edinburgh International Television Festival in August as part of The Network 2011, a prestigious media master class run by national newspaper The Guardian.
Students step into the world of work
A group of students from Canterbury College have been learning all about what it takes to run a busy supermarket as a work experience placement with a major retailer. The students, who are on an Entry 3 Diploma in Vocational Studies with Foundation and Supported Learning, spent a day at Sainsbury’s in Whitstable as part of their course.
College Floral displays given Royal approval
Displays of flowers created by students from Canterbury College got Royal approval during a visit to the city by Prince Edward. The Earl of Wessex was in Canterbury to view progress on the £25.6 million redevelopment of the Marlowe Theatre in his role as Patron of the theatre.
DJ Jack Aiming for Top Music Career
A Canterbury College student, who is combining his studies with working at a record label and DJing in his spare time, says he is hoping all his hard work will lead to a top career in the music industry.
Students help to create Kent’s newest radio station
The team have been working with the broadcasters at the KM Group to come up with radio station jingles, ideas for new shows and features, plus the design for their new logo. Will Branton’s eye-catching pink circle with white lettering was singled out from a vast range of ideas created by second year Graphic Design students.
Industry expert praises Beauty students
A group of students at Canterbury College at Sheppey have been praised by one of the leading beauty industry experts. The group, who are studying for an NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy, participated in a day long training course with representatives from Sterex, world leaders in electrolysis hair removal.

Students Festive Design is a Winner
A student at Canterbury College won a competition to design a Christmas card for a major high street retailer Paperchase.
College Apprentices recognised at awards
Two groups of Canterbury College Apprenticeship students have celebrated their achievements at special presentations arranged by their employers. Apprentices from the NHS were invited to receive certificates from Stuart Bain, Chief Executive of the East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust.
World Skills 2010
Canterbury College students have the world at their feet; achieving success in the World Skills 2010 competition. WorldSkills UK is a high profile set of skills competitions for young people and adults. These provide over 70 annual quality assured skills competitions to encourage young people and adults across the UK to excel in their vocational skill area.

KEIBA 2010
College Graphic Design student Daniel Linthwaite designed the Keiba Awards booklet as part of his Second Year coursework.
Motor Sports students at Canterbury College made their racing debut at Lydden Hill Circuit last month. ‘The Performance Ford Big Weekend’ saw students and staff enter their Ford Fiesta 1800 ST, which had been modified by the Motor Vehicle department.

Student wins Paperchase Christmas card competition
Vicky Bedwell second year Graphic Design student saw her Christmas card design in all Paperchase stores up and down the country! Vicky, 18, from Hythe, created such an eye catching design that when Paperchase bosses visited the College, they awarded Vicky with £100 worth of vouchers and agreed to print her design for Christmas 2009!
Students receive Construction Skills awards
Construction Crafts students from Canterbury College received awards on the completion of their NVQ qualifications in the presence of employers, Construction Skills representatives, (the Sector Skills Council), parents and guests. All students who had completed their NVQ Levels 2 and 3 from trowel occupations, carpentry & joinery were presented with vouchers by Alison Clarke, Principal of the College.
Olympic First Prize for Canterbury College Student
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) joined celebrations at Canterbury College as one of our Graphic Design students took first place in the National contest to design the education logo for the London 2012 Olympics. Reiss Evans, 18, from Dover, saw off competition from more than 150 young people aged 16-21 years-old across the UK. Graphic design students from Canterbury College have secured four of the six finalist places in a national competition to create a new design to infill the London 2012 Olympic logo.
Kent Excellence in Business Awards (KEIBA)
Students and staff at the College worked closely with the event organizers to support with catering, design, floristry and filming. KEIBA was the county’s newest and most prestigious business awards organised by KCC and the KM media group.
World Skills 2010
Twenty two students from Canterbury College have the world at their feet after excelling in the finals of the WorldSkills UK Competition. The students from Dance, Music, Graphic Design and Uniformed Services travelled across the UK to take part in several separate national events.
