Canterbury College Supports KEiBA Awards 2009
As the winners of the Kent Excellence in Business Awards (KEiBA) celebrate their success, students from Canterbury College have broken up for a well deserved summer break after supporting the county’s newest and most prestigious business awards.
At a sparkling event at Leeds Castle last month, Kent County Council, Royal Mail, Business Link, Heart FM and Canterbury College were among the sponsors celebrating the business community of Kent. Students and staff at the College worked closely with the event organizers to support with catering, design, floristry and filming.
The College catering department made petit fours for the evening and the media department put together a short ‘behind the scenes’ video to help document the students’ involvement. Simon Hogben, a Graphic Design Student from Canterbury College, created the official KEIBA programme. He said; “It has been a privilege to work on this exciting live project; I based my whole final major piece on the KEIBA brief and I am thrilled to have gained the highest possible marks”.
Morag Welham Project Manager KEiBA, KM Group said: “The students and staff at Canterbury College students were a joy to work with - they assisted with our event in a very professional manner with floristry, graphic design and the most gorgeous chocolates to finish off our meal. I hope that we can work with them again next year”.
Students from the floristry department spent days preparing the flowers at the event and worked with organisers and local suppliers to embrace the ‘Kent’ theme. Fiona Roberts, from the College Floristry Department said: “We all thoroughly enjoyed and relished the opportunity to work with KEIBA. We produced a striking and contemporary design which complemented the ceremony and embraced the Made in Kent theme’. I was thrilled at the dedication and enthusiasm of the students as they came back to college after the end of term to participate in this prestigious event.’
Canterbury College is no stranger to working with the business community. Every area of the College has a business and employer agenda and operates quarterly stakeholder groups. These help to inform, shape and ensure that Canterbury College has a constant connection with the modern business world.
Mark Hill, the Director of Business Development and Associated Services at Canterbury College said: ‘As one of the county’s largest providers of Further Education and professional training we are always keen to build on our relationships with the Kent business community. These new awards are an excellent opportunity for our students to gain real life experiences, and for the College to further engage with businesses and employers.’ He added: ‘We are very proud of the achievements of our students and staff. This year alone our business students have provided student ambassadors services at Canterbury City Council events, we have exhibited at the Hampton Court Flower show, and four of our students are finalists in the national competition to design the official London 2012 education logo’.
