Students Step into the World of Work
A group of students from Canterbury College have been learning all about what it takes to run a busy supermarket as part of a work experience placement with a major retailer.
The students, who are on an Entry 3 Diploma in Vocational Studies with Foundation and Supported Learning, spent a day at Sainsbury’s in Whitstable as part of their course.
The day included a tour of the store and briefing on company policies, including Health & Safety and Fire procedures, followed by time spent in each department allowing the students to gain experience in all aspects of retail.
The programme, which was designed by Sainsbury’s especially for Canterbury College students, provided them with experience in the world of work and allowed the students to experience a day in the life of a Sainsbury’s member of staff.
The Foundation and Supported Learning Department at Canterbury College works closely with Sainsbury’s who have always supported students with work placements.
Christina Edwards, Work Experience Placement Officer for Supported Learning at Canterbury College, said: “Work experience is invaluable to our students and gives them the opportunity to see first-hand the world of work. They also become more independent, learn skills for life and get an insight into their chosen vocation.”
