Santathon Raises Money for Charity - 20/12/10
Staff and students at Canterbury College have been getting into the festive spirit by staging a Santathon to raise money for charity.
A team from the Health and Social Care department at the College, dressed as Santas and Elves, collected cash around the campus on Tuesday (14th December) and sung carols as they went.
The group managed to raise just over £150 which will be going to Young Carers’ Support Ashford; a charity which helps Under 21’s who are looking after another member of their family that may be suffering from a long term illness, disability or mental health issue.
The Young Carers’ project is run by volunteers and offers respite activities, information and advice, workshops and training days.
Kayleigh Baddeley, Lecturer in Health and Social Care, said: “It is important for our students to connect with the community as the majority of them will be working in the public sector in health and care related employment. The charity is local so the students feel a better connection to it and it relates to the nature of their course in health and social care.” Kayleigh added: “All students and staff made an excellent effort at dressing up; a special effort was made by Emily Anson (level 3 student) who produced the Christmas carol booklet for everyone which we used to sing Christmas songs while walking round the college.”
