Rock Guitar Show Confirmed for Kent Festival of Science

Visitors to The Kent Festival of Science at Canterbury College this half term will be able rock out as they learn all about physics.

Dr Mark Lewney will be staging his show “Rock Guitar in 11 Dimensions” during the two day event taking place at the College’s state-of-the-art campus on New Dover Road.

The show explores the science of sound and vibrations to the particles we’re made up of and the shape of the entire Universe. It also explains the physics of rock using riffs from Vivaldi to AC/DC.

Mark Lewney is an expert rock guitarist with a PhD in guitar acoustics and his show has been described as, ‘a cross between Einstein and Jimi Hendrix’. Mark was also the original winner of the NESTA Famelab competition – which is the X Factor for science communicators.

The Kent Festival of Science is the biggest festival of its kind in the South East, and has attracted some 60,000 visitors over the 16 years that it has been running.

This year’s festival, which is suitable for all ages, will also feature shows such as The Creepy Crawly Man, The Amazing Bubble Show, The Air Show, The Magic of Science, Inferno and much more.

The Kent Festival of Science is a wonderful and exciting celebration of all its many facets, from insects to the stars.”
