Every Click Counted in Student Union Elections
Friday 1st May 2009 saw the end of a record breaking week of elections at Canterbury College, over 800 students elected 10 new officers to run the Students' Union. This is a record turnout for any college in the South East and beats the existing college count by over 400 votes.
For the first time ever students were able to vote online meaning potential nominees had to work very hard in every lesson to win those all important votes.
As well as voting in the classroom, a polling station was set up in the main college street where students could meet candidates and read manifestos; as well as receiving a promotional badge for exercising their democratic rights!
Jordan Gosbee was elected President in the main contested elections with Keri Spreadbourgh beating Kera Woodward to the post of Charities Officer by only 20 votes! The 10 new elected officers will take office from 1st July 2009 and are already planning a Bi-Election for 4 new posts in the new term.
