DJ Jack Aiming for Top Music Career

A Canterbury College student, who is combining his studies with working at a record label and DJing in his spare time, says he is hoping all his hard work will lead to a top career in the music industry.

Jack Francis, from Ashford is doing a Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Music Technology at the New Dover Road campus. He is spending three days a week at College and working two days a week at Cr2 Records, which is based in Richmond in Surrey.

Jack said: “I finish college this summer and really want a career in the music industry so thought it was important to get some work experience while I was still at College. I’ve been really fortunate getting some part time work at Cr2 Records; I help out with promotional work and get to do some work in the studio too. I feel privileged to work at Cr2 Records, they have helped me out a great deal and are an amazing group of people to work with.”

Even though he’s still at College, Jack – whose DJ name is Jack Le Roc - has already got a great CV having supported Example in front of 700 people, and spent last summer DJing in Ibiza.

Jack also said: “It’s a really tough industry to get into, but the course at the College has prepared me well because the facilities we’ve got here are what they use in industry, and it’s been great to be able to fit my course around doing some work as well.”

Cr2 records was set up as an independent house label in 2004 and is behind hits like The Egg – Walking Away, which was used in the Citreon car adverts and Fedde Le Grand – Put Your Hands up for Detroit, which went to number one in 2006.

The state-of-the-art Music Department at Canterbury College has been purpose built with advice from industry experts, not only do students benefit from the facilities but also learn from tutors who are still actively involved in the music profession.
