Prospective students attend Canterbury College Open Day

Around a thousand people visited Canterbury College for an Open Day on Wednesday (30th March) with the Main Street and Hall areas inside the campus were home to stands and displays showcasing over 500 courses.

Academic and support staff from across the College, based on New Dover Road, were on hand to give talks, demonstrations, information and advice on full-time, part-time, Higher Education and Apprenticeship opportunities.

The Performing Arts Department used the event to launch their two new courses; BTEC National Diploma and BTEC Extended Diploma in TV and Stage Acting. Current students also put on performances throughout the afternoon in the purpose built Lanfranc Theatre.

Students studying Motorsport took the opportunity to show off their new Formula Renault racing car that they are currently working on and hope to test drive at Lydden Hill circuit in the next few months. The College also launched 35 new Business Booster courses designed to help employers get the most out of their workforce.

The Canterbury College Student Union, voted best in the UK for 2010, was on hand to talk about how to get the most out of the College experience with their diary of hundreds of activities, clubs and trips.

Tours of the £50million pound campus were available with visitors able to see facilities including the Learning and Resources Centre, Food Hall and on site shops. There was also the chance to see how the redevelopment of the College is progressing. The latest phase of construction work is due to be completed at the end of the year.

As well as being able to enrol for courses starting in September, students were also able get impartial advice on careers, money and travel.

Mark Hill, Director of Business Development and Associated Services said: “We were pleased to see so many people from Canterbury and the surrounding areas come and find out about the College. Canterbury College has grown to be one of the largest colleges in the South East, offering the widest range of academic, vocational courses and apprenticeships.” He added: “We are very proud of our modern state of the art campus, unrivalled links with industry and the outstanding achievements of our students.”

The next Open Day at Canterbury College is on Wednesday 29th June 2011.
