College Dancers Shine at Choreographic Competition

Billy-Joe Poole, winner of Best Male

Students from the Performing Arts Department at Canterbury College have competed at a Choreographic Competition, an annual event in the College calendar.

First year students studying for BTEC’s in Dance, Musical Theatre, Drama and Level 2 Performing Arts had previously taken part in auditions before the best groups from each category were put forward for the competition which was staged in the College’s Lanfranc Theatre.

The students had choreographed all of the routines themselves, produced their own music mixes and sourced costumes and props.

Amy Flight, Dance Course Tutor at Canterbury College, said: “This event really gives the students the chance to show-off their creativity and skills in a variety of dance styles including Jazz, Street, Irish and Contemporary. They all did a fantastic job and really benefitted from some great feedback from our guest judge.”

Eight trophies were presented at the event and everyone who took part was given a commendation.

Guest judge for the evening was Emily Wood from Evolution Productions who produce the pantomimes at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury, Emily said: “I was thrilled to see such great talent amongst the students.  The routines I saw were innovative, dramatic and entertaining.  What’s more, they were performed with great professionalism.  I’m sure that some of the dancers have bright futures ahead of them.”
