College Celebrates Countdown to the London Olympics
As thousands of people across the UK went online to try and get themselves tickets for the London 2012 Olympics, students at Canterbury College held a special 500 days countdown celebration.
Students participated in a range of events and activities across the day, including table tennis, trampoline skills, the chance to enter a prize draw for tickets to the Games, a performance by Dance students and “Feet on the Street”.
“Feet on the Street” gave students the opportunity to draw around their foot on a giant piece of paper which ran the length of the Street, and write in the space where they would like to be in 2012.
Comments included: “I’m really excited about watching the events at the Olympics, especially the boxing and athletics”; “I’d love to be working at the Olympics and getting involved in volunteering”; “I want to be watching the Games with family”
In 2009, Canterbury College student Reiss Evans from Dover, saw off competition from more than 150 young people across the UK to win first place in the National competition to design the education logo for the London 2012 Olympics.
The education logo has been awarded to schools and colleges across the UK which join the Get Set network – part of the official London 2012 education programme. Canterbury College was the first College to join the Get Set network, Get Set is a special community of schools and college which are demonstrating a commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic values.
