Celebration of Achievement
Over 90 students were
congratulated for their hard work at Canterbury College’s Celebration of Achievement
awards ceremony, on Wednesday 10th
December.
The event was hosted in Canterbury College’s main hall at the new £50m site in New Dover Road. ‘Celebration of Achievement’ is held to recognise and award pupils for their outstanding achievements, with students from all faculties winning awards and prizes which are generously donated by local business sponsors and the College.
The evening was compered by BBC South East’s Peter Whittlesea, who entertained the audience during the ceremony which also included the College’s very own version of the ‘Generation Game’. The ‘Building & Construction’ department won the game by beating the ‘A Level’ faculty with their superb Flower arranging skills! Guests were also treated to a performance by soloist Sarah Adams on Flute and a video created by i-media students.
During the evening, 93 students were presented with awards and prizes by some of the guests, who included the Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Councillor Caroline Parry, and Ann Parkin, the Vice Chair of Canterbury College’s governing body.
Samantha Peacock was awarded The Clarissa Million Award for Highest Academic Achievement, for achieving four straight As in Law, English Psychology and Mathematics. David Ballard received The Chairman’s Award for Contribution to Enhancing the Overall Quality of Student Life, and both students received other awards in their relevant areas.
Following the ceremony guests and award winners enjoyed a plethora of entertainment, provided by the Performing Arts and Music departments, along with canapés and drinks supplied by the students from the College’s Catering department.
