Cancer Survivor Robyn Launches Race for Life 2011 - 08/02/11
A member of staff at Canterbury College, who has survived cancer twice, has helped out at the national launch of this year’s Race for Life.
Robyn Pringle, 41 from Sandwich, travelled to London to star alongside Michelle Heaton and Jeff Brazier in a mini musical called ‘Join the Girls’ to kick off the 2011 series which raises money for Cancer Research UK.
Robyn, who works as an administrator at Canterbury College, has taken part in Race for Life events for the past four years after being given the all clear from cancer. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003 when she was 33 years-old, the disease returned two years later.
Robyn said: “It was a complete shock as there was no family history of the disease. I’ve had surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and have now been clear of the disease for five years, although I still have to have regular hospital checks.” Robyn added: “My daughter was only three years-old when I was first diagnosed and my family were a great support to us both. She’s 10 now and joins me to run Race for Life which is great.”
This year Robyn will be doing Race for Life in Herne Bay on 26th June.
‘Join the Girls’ is a mini musical which tells the story of Race for Life in less than 6 minutes. The musical will tour major cinemas across the country throughout February, with a host of celebrities taking part. The live musical advert has been designed to entertain cinema audiences as well as encourage more women to take part in Race for Life and raise money to help beat cancer.
Race for Life is the largest women-only fundraising event in the UK and started in 1994. Since then around 5.4 million participants across the UK have raised £362 million to fund research into cancer treatments.
