NUS say Canterbury College Students’ Union best in South!

Students at Canterbury College have plenty to rejoice about as they celebrate their latest new found victory.

On Monday 9th June Canterbury College’s Students’ Union was voted overall runner-up in the Category of “Best Further Education Students’ Union” in the inaugural NUS Awards held at the ThinkTank in Birmingham. This event recognised outstanding achievement in students’ unions and from the seven short listed institutions, Canterbury College was voted a close second to Derby College by the judges from the NUS, the Centre of Excellence (CEL) and the Learning and Skills Council (LSC).

President of the Students' Union Gareth Webber said after the result, “Although I was a little disappointed to take second place as the runners-up, it’s still fantastic to come so close and be recognised for all the hard work that the staff and officers do at Canterbury College Students’ Union.  I am delighted to be known as the best FE Students’ Union in the South!”

The awards were presented by writer, journalist and BBC broadcaster John Sergeant and the students received a £250 cash prize as the runners up.
