24th January 2011 = Blue Monday - 06/01/11

Make a note in your new diary; Monday 24th January 2011 is Blue Monday.

This date is said to be the most depressing day of the year, due to a combination of the cold weather, debt, time since Christmas and failing New Year resolutions.

But Canterbury College is hoping to banish the winter blues by encouraging people to do random acts of kindness and make everyone feel a little bit more cheerful.

It could be having a chat with a neighbour for the first time, baking a cake for your work colleagues, registering to be a blood donor or just opening the door for someone.

Hosted by the College’s very own “Blue Man”, events at the New Dover Road campus will include:

• Creating your own Hot Chocolate with extra cream and marshmallows
• Blue cupcakes
• Giant games and a bean-bag chill out zone for those who just want to relax and soak up the activities
• Performances by the College’s Glee Club
• Giant blue balloons release

While Canterbury College leads the way with Blue Monday events, it’s expected other organisations across the county will also encourage staff or customers to get happy.

Canterbury College aims to be a hub for these events and initiatives, collating them on our Blue Monday website and our Facebook page.
