Christmas Raffle Raises over £760 for Charity - 04/01/11
Two charities are benefiting from money raised in a Christmas raffle organised by the Building Services Department at Canterbury College.
More than £760 was collected from staff and students and is being split and donated to Pilgrims Hospices and The Meningitis Trust.
Steven Bunting, Section Manager for Building Services said: “At the start of the academic year the building services staff decided that they wanted to run some events to benefit charities. We chose to support The Meningitis Trust as two members of staff had the illness as children, and the Pilgrims Hospices is local to the College and was very supportive to another member of staff during his father’s illness.”
Steven added: “All the staff and students were very supportive of the event either buying or selling tickets or donating more than 20 prizes. We’re planning more fundraisers in the New Year including a static cycle ride – students v staff – and a photo competition.”
Pilgrims Hospice, which has sites in Canterbury, Thanet and Ashford, provides care and support to people with life-limiting illnesses, their families and carers and needs £8million a year to keep running.
