Phase 3
Canterbury College is pleased to announce that it has commenced works on the next phase of its campus redevelopment programme.
The works consist of the demolition of the outdated Beckett and Cranmer teaching blocks, built in the 1960's, to make way for 6000m2 of new teaching facilities.
The block will bring the Hair and Beauty departments onto campus as well as providing new teaching spaces for: early years, veterinary science, public and social services and a new student union office.
The new block will link to the existing Phase 1 and 2 buildings and will include an extension to "the street".
With a total project value of £19million these new facilities represent a pioneering step in the FE sector as the first major project wholly financed, privately, by the College, enabling us to continue our commitment 'to be the best in teaching and learning'.
The existing site is approximately 27,000m2 of floor space, the new site masterplan is based upon a development of 33,000 m2 of space made up of 62% new and 38% refurbishment.
The site masterplan was adopted as Supplementary Planning Guidance by Canterbury City Council and Project Funding was approved by the Government to redevelop 33,000 m2 valued at £46.9m (gross construction costs which includes consultants fees, contingency sum, clients F,F &E budgets and VAT).
